A true southern native
born in Port Arthur, TX and home of the Trill.
J.CATALYST was identified a unique one the moment he arrived on this world.
for example, he was swimming at the age of 5 and reading children books and recording it to audio, to make audiotapes of books for his elementary classmates.

Midway through his formative years, J.CATALYST and his family moved to Dallas, Texas. It was then he developed a passion for putting his thoughts on paper.
J.CATALYST grew up on the influences of Criss Cross, TLC, MC Hammer, New Edition and more at an early age. He was exposed to multiple sounds by his family from Too short, to Ghetto Boys, Bone thugs n Harmony & Kirk Franklin just to name a few.
His first time to pick up a pen and intentionally start writing rhymes was in High school as an outlet to express the things he felt he couldn’t say out loud or getting his point of view across without interruption from anyone in a conversation.
Since being a child of divorced parents and an overly strict stepfather. He often found himself silenced; writing was the only thing that kept his sanity. After graduation, he ended up in a disagreement with his Mom and Step-Father and decided to take a chance and move to Lafayette, LA to stay with his Biological Father. It was an opportunity to get to know him since he on rare occasional visits in the picture growing up.
Life in Louisiana was needless to say an interesting time in J.CATALYST life, not only with really crafting out his talent with Music but home life as well. His father was a street hustler and often found himself having to make runs and back up for his father if the transactions went bad. One night in a heated altercation with his father, he decided it was time to go back home to Dallas and focus on really becoming the artist he was meant to be.
He had a vision of bringing universalism to hip-hop; the belief was fusing different genres of art to bring about a bigger picture. Hence the definition of the word:
Catalyst: -noun: Something or someone that causes activity between two or more persons or forces without itself being affected.
A true lyricist at heart, he has broken ground with genres ranging from Hip-hop, Pop, Alternative Rock, Spoken word, Reggaeton, R&B and is a ghostwriter for some up-and-coming industry artist.
He first started out going to open mic’s in the Dallas- Fort Worth Metroplex, gaining respect in both Hip-hop and spoken word worlds. He went on to do various shows in the metroplex, including performing at the Dallas House of Blues, Modeling for the 97.9 The Beat car show and performing in Austin’s famous South by Southwest “SXSW.” He landed his single “DUMB” on DJ Drama & that’s hip-hop: Third infantry division, and also became Coast-to-Coast mixtape showcase champion twice, in Dallas and New York.
In the summer of 2013, J.CATALYST took the stage opening up at the 97.9 Hip-Hop for HIV summer jam concert opening up for major acts like of Bun B., Scarface, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, K.Michelle and many more.
Fast forward to 2018, after completing his Audio engineering degree in May 2016, and winning Dallas Master of the Mic Competition, he made his way to the Big Apple to become Studio Manager with the world-famous Quad Studios. Focusing on perfecting his craft, songwriting for up and coming artist and also now producing tracks. He’s now ready to reveal himself back to the world and release his long-awaited EP “Solitude.”
Still staying true to his Southern Roots, but now incorporating some heavy NYC influence.
J.CATALYST prides himself on being an artist that is not afraid to step out of the traditional realm of hip-hop. He believes that Hip-hop is evolving, and with that in mind, he has every intention of living up to the name Catalyst!
